A Hot Day - Story Time
2017.03.18 17:08:28The scorching earth. Forests set ablaze, cities drowned in a fiery inferno. Anna would probably call that an exaggeration, but Monika thought it was a pretty apt description of the weather right now. It was the middle of Summer, and the world wanted everyone to know it. Temperatures were through the roof and drought had set in in a few places. Monika sat in the living room, staring out onto the fields in front of their house. The windows were wide open, but not a single gust of wind blew through them. Monika thought she could hear the hot air simmering under the burning sun, but that might have just been her imagination again. There wasn't really any particular sound, just this strange kind of general noise that lets you know it's summer, permeating through everything.

A Mistake - Story Time
2016.12.04 00:47:22“Haaah,” Monika sighed in relief as she threw herself onto her desk chair. Her contract work was finally complete and sent out. The past few days had been a bit of a rush because of that, the deadlines always looming over her. Now that it was all over with, she had earned herself some peace and quiet. Maybe she could even read a book again for once.

Evening - Confession 69
2016.10.05 22:07:39Monika stared out of the window. The bright light from inside made it practically impossible to make out any distinguishing features in the dark outside. She was close enough to the glass that her breath created a circle of fog every time she breathed. Small pearls of water would form from it and slowly make their way down onto the windowsill. Monika sniffled and then sneezed.

A Scene - Story Time
2016.08.06 23:58:28The bike rattled softly as it flew over the pavement downhill. It was early Spring and the weather seemed to be about as perfect as one could imagine. Mostly clear skies with some neat clouds decorating it here and there. Monika relished every second of this and quietly hummed a tune. Her hair fluttered in the cool wind as she descended down the hill towards the town.

Dust - Confession 63
2016.05.30 22:34:37
The only thing that seemed to be moving at all were the specks of dust in the air. They glistened up as they passed through the rays of light falling down from above. Sometimes it seemed as if the dust had a mind of its own, moving about without any noticeable trace of wind, sometimes suddenly soaring high up into the air, only to coast back down a moment later.

Memoirs of a Lost Girl - Entry No. 16
2016.04.30 17:55:38It is the middle of the night and I am writing this by candle-light. I'm still very much shaken by shock, but it is imperative that I write this down. It might very well be the last entry I ever get to write– the last trace that is left of me. I am afraid for my life. I don't know who or what is after me, but I have reason to believe that there was an attempt to abduct me. If you are reading this, and I have not finished this entry, please come look for me! With any luck, I might still be alive somewhere!

First Day Pt. 3 - Story Time
2016.04.01 14:20:22There is something almost magical about a good, cool shower; as if it not only cleaned your body but also cleansed your mind, washing your troubles down the drain. Monika's head felt light on her shoulders and she was once again able to think clearly. All freshened up, she let herself fall onto her bed and watched the dust glimmer in the air for a moment. With a yank she got back onto her feet and went on to fetch her backpack downstairs. She might as well get started on the homework they had gotten. She placed her things neatly onto the living room table, and then remembered that she still hadn't eaten anything for lunch. A quick sandwich later she was finally ready to get to work.

First Day Pt. 2 - Story Time
2016.04.01 14:05:29For both Monika and Florian their ride to school went by rather quickly, although for very different reasons. Monika's head was once again filled with piercing questions about her new life, while Florian's was almost completely empty, or perhaps just filled with a mist that made everything feel dull and weary. For Florian, this was a perfectly normal situation. It took him at least three hours every morning before he was actually, truly awake. A trait he shared with his mother; anything they did before that just felt like an immense drag. Monika on the other hand simply didn't adapt well to sudden changes. Situations like these always brought her into great turmoil. Normally she wouldn't think too much about anything, which would make trips like these take much longer than it did now.

Into the Dark - Confession 59
2016.01.16 20:42:07
The fire crackles quietly as it gnaws on the dry campfire wood, slowly turning it darker. The orange flames dance silently surrounded by a ring of charred rocks. Despite the rock's cold and uncaring stare the flames go on dancing long into the night. But even their dance must end eventually. All that remains behind them is a pile of smouldering ash, lamenting the beautiful spectacle that once was.

Ran, How Did You Become Yukari's Shikigami?
2015.12.07 11:39:08Note for the uninitiated: This is an answer to a question that was posed on an in-character blog. If you are not familiar with the Touhou universe and characters, this story is likely going to be difficult to understand to its fullest. A good starting point to understand it however would be to read some parts of the wiki entries about Yukari and Ran, the two characters this is about, and about what a Shikigami is in the official works.

First Day Pt. 1 - Story Time
2015.09.02 21:24:05Change is a fickle thing. While it might make things a lot better, it still only actually promises to bring one thing: uncertainty. Uncertainty makes people anxious, makes them worried and stressed out, irregardless of how things are likely to turn out in the end. It isn't surprising then that in a lot of folklore, any time that brings forth change is associated with a time for demons and all sorts of other evil-bringing creatures that cause humans grief and suffering. While this story is indeed about a time of great change, it is however fortunately enough not about demons, even if looking around the room could have very well led us to believe that some sort of demon must have done his deeds here. While for some people children are indeed embodiments of the devil himself, we shall abstain from such metaphors for now.

Memoirs of a Lost Girl - Entry No. 9
2015.05.28 21:12:00I think I finally managed to figure out what my generous hosts' names are. I always confused them for words before, but now I'm fairly sure that his name is “Ionas”, and hers is “Mia”. Though I'm not entirely certain that this is the proper way to write their names. I wish I knew a phonetic scripture to write them down properly, but I doubt there's much of a chance of me being able to learn such a thing here.

Rime - Confession 52
2015.04.12 20:35:06A cold wind blew through my hair, decorating it with snowflakes. The vapour clouds that rose from my mouth looked like puffs of cotton, almost solid enough to grasp. It was very foggy all around me. I estimated that I could see twenty, maybe thirty meters ahead of me. In every direction I looked there was nothing but trees and the never ending blizzard. The cold had already made its way through my thick fur coats, rendering everything stiff and heavy. Nevertheless, I trudged onward. Where to, I had long since forgotten. Anywhere but here was good enough.

Memoirs of a Lost Girl - Entry No. 8
2015.03.20 20:37:12I've been staying with the couple for a couple of weeks now. I still can't understand their native tongue, but I've been able to pick up on a few phrases. Most of what needs to be said is exchanged through gesturing and acting. It's frustrating at times, but also strangely amusing. I really don't know why they put up with me though, my unexpected arrival must have drastically altered their lives, not to mention that my cluelessness and prior illness means they have a lot more to do than they would normally.

Memoirs of a Lost Girl - Entry No. 7
2015.02.09 18:40:03It has been a long time since I've had the chance to write an entry. A lot has happened – too much to think about, let alone put it into words. Many a thing that I've experienced is still strange and foreign to me, as if from a bad dream.

Awards Pt. 3 - Story Time
2014.12.06 11:56:12“The sixth place goes to the Zürich Park project.” The screen showed a large photograph of an idyllic, green park. The city's crest and a building company's logo were displayed on the bottom and a short blurb explained what the goal of the project was. “Miss Eglin and Mr Furrer displayed great aptitude with their Photography and chose an excellent subject. The intent of the advertisement is clearly portrayed and it seems as if it were taken from an actual poster from our city. It is well deserving of the sixth place and will be displayed in the halls around the University” concluded the beard. Two figures stood up from the front of the rows and hurried onto the stage. As before, they shook everyone's hands, took their certificates and returned to their seats, chattering in excitement amongst each other. Applause.

Awards Pt. 2 - Story Time
2014.11.23 22:40:00With four minutes delay (Anna had counted them) the organisers of the contest entered the stage. One of them, a man with a scraggly beard, square glasses, and a suit with tie stepped up to the podium. He coughed lightly, looked around the audience and started speaking with a coarse and monotone voice.

Summertag - Confession 17
2014.07.25 19:59:47This is another story of Monika, but as an experiment I'm going to write it in Swiss German. Apologies to literally everyone else who might read this as I doubt you'll ever be able to. I'd love it if you could, though! The title means ‘Summer days’.

A Peculiar Day Pt. 8 「The End」 - Confession 13
2014.07.20 11:34:49Monika hesitated for a moment before she knocked on Florian's door. Maybe it wasn't right to meddle with his affairs after all. Much to the chagrin of her consciousness boredom won over the conflict and so she proceeded. After knocking she heard some things tumble over and Florian cursing. He then seemed to stomp towards the door and practically ripped it open. He didn't look particularly pleased. Upon seeing Monika he let out a short sigh and asked “What is it?” “Well, you see, I was just wondering if everything was ok with you since…” “Since what”, he interrupted her and raised an eyebrow questioningly. Monika blushed and avoided his gaze. She went on to stammer “To be honest I don't know, but you seemed to act kinda strange and I was thinking you weren't quite being really completely honest earlier at dinner and so I thought I might ask if… if there was anything going on?” Florian didn't say anything for a while, but Monika noticed him breathing in deeply. He was most likely considering how to answer to that. She hadn't been completely wrong with her suspicion after all, Monika thought to herself with no lack of joy. Florian coughed briefly and looked back into his room to say “I'm just… really busy right now, so I might just be stressed out, alright?” He looked her in the face again and went on “So really, don't worry about it.” Monika didn't answer. She intensely studied his face for any clues on what he might be hiding. Feeling that all that could be said had been said, Florian sent her off with “I need to get back to work” and closed the door in front of her face.

A Peculiar Day Pt. 7 - Confession 12
2014.07.18 11:15:57Quiet dinners like these were not an odd occurrence for Monika at all. In fact, both of her parents were rather quiet types, which was carried over to their children as well. Out of all four of them, Florian was probably the most talkative; eventually trying to liven things up a little by initiating a conversation, but it usually never went all too far. While to outsiders this lack of communication might seem strange, Monika hardly ever lost any thoughts on the matter as it seemed perfectly natural to her. After all, there usually wasn't anything exciting to talk about anyway, so why bother.

A Peculiar Day Pt. 6 - Confession 9
2014.07.10 18:59:08Lost in the world of words, time passed quickly. Before Monika could notice, dinner was served and the darkness had reclaimed the streets outside. Both of her parents were already seated as Monika hurried into the living room to eat. She hastily threw a greeting towards her father who grunted in response and just as she was about to sit down the front door crashed open and Florian rushed in. Anja immediately shouted “clean yourself off or you'll have to do the dishes today!” The door closed and after a while Florian came in again, this time without taking a ton of snow with him.
