Well, the stress is over. For now at least.
So yes. Time for an update, there's been quite some things going that I haven't talked about.
The first thing I notice when writing something like this up is that I should really write a fix schedule for my projects, because it's so hard to keep track of everything and I'm sure it'd be more convenient for everyone else too if they knew what I was doing when and how long I'd still have to work on something.
Since I started my post with what I'm going to do, I'll talk about that now so I don't forget about it. As most of you should know, my main internet residence nowadays is called Stevenchan. It's an imageboard that's currently running on a software called Kusaba X. However, this software is a piece of garbage, is terribly written, horrible to maintain and especially a nightmare to extend or modify. That's the main reason why I came up with the plan of writing my own imageboard software, as a module for TyNET. And so I did. It's fully functional and most of the main features are in place. There's still some stuff missing that I want to get ready though, like f.e. a Threadwatcher, the possibility to merge boards and… ah, just read for yourself.
I've been less and less satisfied with the TyNETv3 core itself too lately. I'm thinking about rewriting main parts of it and migrating to v4 (yes, already). But before that happens I still have to plan it out better and think things over so that I actually have a system that works well and doesn't create an immense overhead like v3 does now. Additionally to the Chan module, a HUB module is in the works. It'll provide informations for the status of my projects, changelogs, and so on. Probably also a timeline and schedule to keep things organized and in place. It'll take some time til I finish that though as the Chan module takes priority over that.
Oh. I should probably also mention that registrations are open now (and have been for weeks, just forgot to notify). I also brought the TyNET IRC server back up. You can reach it on irc.tymoon.eu:6667 . It's mainly used for the Stevenchan users to chat chat around. I blocked the #pesterchum channel to avoid having annoying people on there that for some reason still use clients that have been abandoned for almost a year now. On that note: Any kind of support tickets or requests about Pesterchum will be ignored by me. I have nothing to do with the project anymore and I don't have the time to bother either.
I'm planning on learning some more about other languages too, especially LISP. It's always been an intriguing language to me and I would love to actually know how to use it well. Maybe I'll get a book on it, I'll have to see. If anyone can program in LISP and reads this: Can you suggest anything to me?
That should clear everything up about the programming and technical stuff. As for artistic things, I'm continuing work on my Re-Boot adventure. I hope I can get the once-a-week schedule back up, but I can't promise anything since I have to save up more and more time for school. Most likely I'll even have to put all my projects on hold at some point in spring due to the finals that I have to concentrate on. I'll post an update on that as soon as I can make the situation out better. Other artistic works will continue to tumble in every now and then, hopefully more. I'm trying to switch over to (Arch) linux at the moment. MyPaint seems to be a good substitute for SAI so far, but there's still some bumps that should be fixed for me to feel comfortable with it. So yeah. How much I'll do and especially how it'll look will probably shift a lot in the coming time. Stay put though, I'm sure it'll turn out just fine.
One minor thing that isn't artistic or technical that I just remembered is that I would love to pick learning Japanese back up. I'm not sure if I can find the time for that, but maybe, just maybe. I'll have to see.
Now for the things that have already happened.
I finally finished my Matura project. This measn that yes, Transcend is finished. And it also means that Transcend isn't finished. How about that? Well, the document and the official school project are done. It's all sent in, I can't change that anymore. However, the project itself is far from done. I'll continue working on this game until I finish it or in some way end up forgetting about it. I hope the latter doesn't happen. After all, I put a huge lot of work into this and it does have some potential, so I might as well get it over with. If you want to read the document about it, you can download it here. Be warned though, it's in German so I doubt any of you can actually read it. And if you can, I'm not even sure if you'll understand half of what I'm blabbing about in there. Oh well. So yes, I'll probably also post some more blog entries about it in the future, if anything interesting or noteworthy happens with it.
I turned 18 years old. So yes, on the 18.11.2011 I reached the age at which people get called adults for no reason. I also get to pay taxes and vote for things I don't care about. Hooray! Really though, I only gained disadvantages, except for maybe being able to pay with PayPal or some shit. Ah well, I'll deal with it.
Then I got a new machine. About damn time too, my old one was just way too loud, too slow and all around getting dusty and cluttered. But I didn't just get some new machine, it's quite a beauty too. Look at all that power:
Intel Xeon CPU W3680 @ 3.33GHz, 6 cores. 12GB DDR3 ECC RAM 1TB HDD, 120GB SSD NVidia GeForce GT 520, 1GB
And it's completely silent too. Seriously, I can't stress this enough. It's a real pleasure for the ears because you barely ever hear the fans, even if you don't have any music running. Of course, the graphics card isn't the best thing, but it's a lot better than my previous one and that was already good enough, so I'm really not complaining. The SSD is amazingly fast and everything runs beautifully well. The case isn't anything special either, but I never gave a damn about the looks. Computers are here to work and that's what I want them to be able to do. So yes. It's awesome. It did come with a price though… 2'500Chf, which is approx. 2'700$. And I have to pay at least half of it. Ah well, at least my money is spent well.
As mentioned earlier in the post, I also started using Linux more extensively. Actually, I'm using it as my primary OS at the moment, and only very rarely switch to windows, f.e. to use livestream (for the Stevenchan movie nights) or something. The distribution I'm currently running is called Arch Linux and it's suiting me pretty damn well. It's a slim distro that requires some manual setup and configuration to get running, but it's well worth the effort imo. I'm also using a tiling window manager instead of a desktop environment now, specifically wmfs. The concept of twms really appeals to me and I love working with them. I really prefer them over des like Gnome, KDE or XFCE. Here's a screenshot of my desktop:
So yeah. I think this about covers most of it pretty well. I hope you all had a great time too and have a merry winter time.
