I got my workstation set up again and am not feeling stupid at the moment. What better time to do some Kanji.
[傷](http://kanjidamage.com/kanji/1207)A person can wound another easily with a rifle. color(#666666){傷 = <亻|⿱?昜> = <亻|<?|昜>>. Although ⿱?昜 has a different meaning from ?, they seem to be the same character.}
The earth is easily definable as “a place”. Oh man! color(#666666){場 = <土|昜>.}
Makes sense with the “hook” pseudo radical, but nor really as a component, unfortunately. color(#666666){This does not appear to be a thing.}
The lower part of this is later on said to be ?. So… why the fuck isn't it here? color(#666666){It's closer to 巴 though. Mainly because the two share the thing in the middle, and Chinese characters in general do not share character components.}
As an exemption, sometimes even humans are used as bait! color(#666666){Interestingly, 免 doesn't have a known etymology. Looking at the ancient bronzes, it had an older form resembling ⿱宀人, presumably a house with a kneeling man under a roof – he is weak so he is exempt from, say, farm work. Then the top of the character mutated 宀 → 人 → 刀 → ⺈, whereas the lower half goes 人 → 女 → [the thing we have now].}
color(#666666){逸 = 辶 × 兔. The rabbit (note 兔, which lost its dot during simplification) runs quickly 辶 to escape; “escape” becomes “deviate”, which yields the current form.}
If you “exempt” the day, you get night. color(#666666){晩 ← 晚 = <日|免>. Distinction of codepoints says it's simplified, but I cannot see the simplification.}
Coloured strings? Literally impossible. color(#666666){絶 ← 絕 = <糸 × 刀|巴>. The string is cut – it ends. Turning the right-hand side into 色 is a coincidence, because of the 刀 = ⺈ equality.}
Trying hard is more of an exemption than the rule. color(#666666){勉 = <力|免>. Here you see the sliding-to-the-right thing again.}
Is there a monocle Kanji too? color(#666666){Yes, 尸 – this appears to be a variant of the same!}
Uuuh, samurais with lorgnettes have beautiful voices ? …. ??? color(#666666){声 ← 聲 = <耳|殸> = <耳|(士 · ?) × 殳>. 士 · ? is a drawing of an instrument, and have an action 殳 at it and it will make the sound that the ear 耳 hears.}
And here we have the 巴 I was talking about. Apparently 巴 means “greatly desire, anxiously hope”. I guess obese people's organs greatly desire food? color(#666666){肥 = <⺼|巴>.}
Oink. color(#666666){豚 = ⺼ × 豕 = ⺼ × (pig). Originally “pork”, hence meat.}
Elephants are large pigs with a long hook for a nose? Idk. color(#666666){象 = (an elephant). The trunk is the ⺈, sideways sun the ears, and 豕 is its legs and tail. }
The person built a statue in the elephant's image. color(#666666){像 = <亻!象>. Interesting quote on why “elephant” is pronounced like “image”, to paraphrase: during ancient China, elephants were heard of, but they cannot pass through the Himalayas. People in China can only guess at their appearance based on second-hand data and skeletons, hence they are only images.}
color(#666666){縁 ← 緣 = <糸|彖> = <糸|彑 × 豕>. Whereas 豕 doesn't show the head, the addition of 彑 (the head of the pig with tusks) emphasise the tusks.}
The roofs underneath which the pigs live are their homes. color(#666666){家 = 宀 × 豕. Pigs under roofs.}
The bride will soon become “a woman of the house”. color(#666666){嫁 = <女|家>.}
Wheat ⇒ Home. color(#666666){稼 = <禾|家>.}
color(#666666){遂 = <辶!㒸> = <辶!豕 × 八>. Pigs 豕 running away (split 八) on a road 辶: chase. And once that is complete, you attain. }
Troups are filled with evil (horns) pigs that litter in the towns. color(#666666){隊 = <阝suL|㒸>. Troops guard walls.}
color(#666666){行 = (some crossroads). Later, people reanalyzed the thing as 彳 × 亍 or even rewrote the character as a compound 彳 + 亍, but you know better!}
If you don't have an excess of “go juice”, you'll go very slowly! color(#666666){徐 = <彳|余>. 彳's reanalyzed meaning is “small steps”, so that makes sense.}
And we're finally back to having the URL-ID match the actual Kanji #! Also, pupils go around and run after their masters. color(#666666){徒 = <彳 ← 辶|走 ← 土>. Original form: ?.}
I seem to have way too many stomach-aches recently.
